CONFERENCE TOPICS
"Corrective Surgery in CAH: An Update" Speaker: Dix Poppas, MD
The presentation will provide a brief overview of surgical techniques, recommendations about age for surgery, possible need for revisions and age when revisions may have to occur, surgical related pain, what to expect during surgery and potential complications. Surgical related research questions such as need for surgical outcome data will also be addressed.
"Genetic Screening and Prenatal Diagnosis and Management" Speaker: Saroj Nimkarn, MD
The goal of the talk is to provide information on availability of genetic testing for CAH, indications for genetic screening, prenatal options for carrier couples, available application of pre-implantation genetic diagnosis in CAH, prenatal dexamethasone treatment and its effect on both mother and the baby, risk vs. benefit of CVS.
"Management issues of children with CAH” Speaker: Maria Vogiatzi, MD
The lecture will cover topics such as newborn screening, principles of steroid therapy and monitoring of adrenal steroids, differences of various steroid preparations (i.e. hydrocortisone, vs. prednisone. vs. dexamethasone), stress management of steroids, growth concerns during childhood and effects of steroid therapy on growth. "Disorders of puberty and CAH" Speaker: Zoltan Antal, MD
The presentation will focus on disorders of puberty that are frequent in patients with CAH, such as precocious puberty, amenorrhea or irregular menses in girls, symptoms of poor adrenal control in adolescent girls and testicular abnormalities in males. Presentation Handout
"Osteoporosis in CAH. Is there a reason for concern?" Speaker: Karen Su, MD
The lecture will review risk of osteoporosis in children and adults with CAH, the role of steroids on the bone, screening and prevention efforts and future research directions. Presentation Handout
Adult panel
This is a question and answer session. Attendants will be able to ask questions of our panel of adult patients with CAH.
School/Camp Packet Overview – Speaker: Deborah Brown, RN
An informational session for parents with school and camp- age children. It will cover information for school and camp personnel on how to keep children safe and healthy.
Injection Teaching Sessions – Speakers: Cary Reynhold, CPNP & Deborah Brown, RN
Participants will learn how to properly administer a Solu-Cortef® injection. Thirty minute sessions will be offered at different times during the day. Sign up for a session when you check-in at registration
